We had a 'Snowy' time at Wellie Wednesday this week!

This week was a very very cold Wellie Wednesday!
We had a look at all of the trees - they are bare!
All those colourful leaves have disappeared! Winter time is nearly here!

Today we made a winter decoration to hang inside our house.
We chose our own fir cone and tied on some 'Raffia'  to make a hoop.
The we sprayed our cone with spray snow!  It looked like our fir cone had been snowed on!
These will look beautiful hanging in our house, maybe on our Christmas trees this winter!
Well done Willow!

We've posted our Letters!!!

Today we had great fun posting our letters to Santa.
First we had to put the letter into an envelope that had Santa's address on (There is a link to this below if any 'siblings' would like to do this.).
Then we had to fix the stamp in the right place. We had to make sure the stamp was securely stuck on, the right way around.
Then we got wrapped up warm and went on our little walk to the post box!
Miss Quinn was so so proud of how Willow class behaved!
Everybody walked smartly and sensibly and we were all very good at crossing the little road safely.

We made a special wish on our Santa letter before we posted it! Fingers crossed Santa gets them and maybe - if he has time - replies to us all!

Willow was wonderful at writing letters! Maybe the children would like to write other letters at home - maybe some Christmas cards!

Well done Willow - you were Wonderful as always :-)

Look At Our Letters To Santa!

Last week we read the story of 'The Jolly Postman' and talked about letters. We all wrote a letter to the Jolly Postman as we felt sad he didn't get any letters!

This week we have started to think about Christmas. We used our letter writing skills to write a letter to Santa.

We made sure our writing was neat so Santa could read it!

We are going to walk and post our letters on Wednesday Morning!
(Please remember to send your stamp and permission slip in if you haven't already)

We hope Santa likes the letters and sends us a reply!

Do the number friends jive on our blog!

We have been learning that all numbers have friends which help them to total (add up to) another number.
We have been focusing on learning the number friends of 10.
The children have loved singing this song...they asked if they can sing it at home too!

Maybe you can send us a video of you jiving to this at home so we can add it to the blog :-)
You can attach and send your video to this e-mail

Look at Our Amazing IPAD Firework Displays!

We've been talking Bonfire night and why we celebrate it.

We learnt all about Guy Fawkes and made some wonderful 'Gunpowder Plot' story books!
Some of us have been to firework displays, we watched a video of a display on the internet! The colours and patterns were beautiful!

Letters and Sounds!

Hi Mums, Dads, Nans, Grandads and Responsible Guardians out there!

I think the weather scared lots of you away from our 'Letters and Sounds Drop In' this afternoon!
Well fear not...I have homework for you!

On the right hand side of this blog there is a video clip showing how all of the letters/ blends of letters are pronounced as sounds. Please watch this, as you will note it is very different from when we went to school!
If we are all teaching the children to pronounce the letter sounds correctly it really helps them to quickly pick up reading and spelling :-) !

We teach each letter sound with 'Jolly Phonic actions and songs' I have found a YouTube clip of these so you can sing along at home!

There are also some brilliant online games to help with reading, spelling, learning 'tricky' words (words which do not sound out).

So have fun with phonics!
You know where I am if you need any more support!

Autumn Fun

This week we have been learning about Autumn!

We all went on an Autumn walk and searched for signs of Autumn.

We found leaves on the floor.
The leaves were crunchy.
The leaves had changed colour.

There are not many flowers.
We found berries on some bushes

We decided to make an information book so we could help other people learn about Autumn! Look at some of the excellent writing we have done for the book.
Archie's Writing
Alisha's Writing

We have also been looking at the size and shapes of leaves in Maths and sorting them into groups. Today we looked at the leaves size, shape and colour and made 'pattern' leaf crowns! They look amazing!

What food do you like?

This week we will be starting our Harvest topic. We will be thinking about the foods we like and don't like and finding out where our foods come from.
We will be thinking which food is healthy and those that are not so healthy and designing a healthy packed lunch.
You could help at home by cutting out pictures of food from magazines, leaflets and maybe making some lovely posters.

Welcome Willow Class 2014 - 2015

Well done to all of the new children in Willow class!
You are all coming into school really well and starting to arrange all of your belongings.
We have had lots of fun so far!
We are learning all about each other, what we like, don't like, who our friends are and who is in our families.
We made a Charter together to show everyone what rules we like in our class. These rules will keep us safe, happy and help us to be good learners.
