Listen to our Leafy poems!

After our Autumn walk we have been thinking of some good ways to describe what Autumn looks like.
We read some Autumn poems that described Autumn in lots of different ways.
We decided to make some Autumn poems of our own by changing a poem called 'Leaves Don't Just Fall...'
We thought of lots of things that leaves do and made some great new poems.

Red Group -
Leaves don't just fall,
they blow in the air.
Leaves don't just fall,
they dance like a butterfly.
Leaves don't just fall,
they flutter around.
Leaves don't just fall,
they're like a carpet on the ground.
Yellow Group -
Leaves don't just fall,
they are soft blankets for animals.
Leaves don't just fall,
a gust of wind caries them to the ground.
Leaves don't just fall,
they twirl slowly like a princess.
Leaves don't just fall,
they change colour red, yellow, pink, brown.
Leaves don't just fall,
they turn trees into colouful rainbows
and when they fall
they make scrunchy jumpy pillows!

Blue Group -
Leaves don't just fall,
they spin in the sky.
Leaves don't just fall,
they turn like ballerinas.
Leaves don't just fall,
they are red, yellow and brown.
Leaves don't just fall,
bugs hide so they cant be found.
Leaves don't just fall,
They float to the ground.

Green Group
Leaves don't just fall,
they dance like ballerinas.
Leaves don't just fall,
they crunch under your feet.
Leaves don't just fall,
they float like little boats.
Leaves don't just fall,
they help minibeasts to hide from the cold.
Leaves don't just fall, they are a crispy path for me to run!
Autumn leaves are lots of fun!

Shhhhhh! Our Hedgehogs are hibernating!

This week we have been looking very carefully around our school, we have noticed that many of the trees are bare and the ground is covered in beautiful Autumn leaves. We have talked about how the weather is becoming colder and the days are shorter.
We've been thinking about the animals that live in the Forest School area. We watched a video that showed us that a Hedgehog hibernates when the weather gets cold. This means they make a warm cosy leaf nest in the bottom of the hedgerows and they sleep through the Winter.
When we went out for Wellie Wednesday this week we made some hedgehogs of our own from mud, leaves and sticks.

What do you think?

We all found lovely hiding places to put our hedgehogs in so they could hibernate. Then we searched the forest school area to make sure there was enough food for the hedgehogs.
We searched for worms, slugs and insects - all of the foods which hedgehogs love!
We found lots!

Maybe you could make some muddy hedgehogs in your garden!

Diwalli Celebrations!

Last week in school we learnt all about the celebration of Diwalli!
The children were great in comparing Diwali and Christmas.
We watched Jessica enjoy Diwalli! Click on the link below to see what happens.

Brilliant Bonfire Celebrations!

Well done Willow Class - You all returned to school this week with big smiley faces and lots of news about your week off!  :-)

Lots of you told us about the Bonfire celebrations that you had been to.
We made some fantastic bonfire safety posters on Monday.

This is Edwin's!
We also did some blow paintings that looked like all of the colours of fireworks exploding in the sky!

      This is Katie's

We all really enjoyed learning about Guy Fawkes and we had a good discussion on what he tried to do to the houses of parliament and why he did it. Have a look at this video -

We had some great fun building our own bonfires for Wellie Wednesday.

In maths we made our firework pictures take off! All the fireworks had to have 5 sparks to go. We counted and worked out how many sparks to add on to make 5!
What a fun week!
Next week the celebrations continue as we take a look at Diwalli.
