Christmas is coming!!!

Willow class are getting ready for Christmas now it's DECEMBER!
We have had a dress rehearsal for our Christmas play and are very excited about our families and friends coming to see it! We have also started work on our calendars and cards.

Mrs Quinn-Lock was amazed by our wonderful writing for our letter to Santa Clause!

Damien's really worked hard on his 'sounding out'!

Alex has put a lot of effort into
his 'letter formation'!

Well done Willow you are becoming wonderful writers!

We've been 'Jolly Posting'!

We have had an excellent week building our class post office and post box, reading The Jolly Postman, matching letters to the right door numbers on the playground and writing letters to each other!

On Wednesday we went on a walk to post our letters. We were very excited when the postman strolled across the playground to deliver them to us today!

We're shaping up our 3D shape knowledge in Willow!

This week in Willow we have been learning about the names of 3D shapes and describing them using some good Maths language. Today we used the Polydroid to make a cuboid 'Post box' for our Post office. We are going to cover it with red paper ready to put any christmas cards in that the children may write.

We also tried to mould some 3D shapes with the playdough and build them from the clixi and polydron.

This week we are going to look out for 3D shapes that we see around us, we've already spotted that the cupboard is a cuboid shape, a toilet roll is like a cylinder and a ball is a sphere. Post a comment on here if you notice any other objects that are like the 3D shapes we have learnt.

Celebrating Diwali in Willow Class!

Last week we looked at the 'Hindu' festival of Diwali. We are having lots of fun;-
making Diwali cards, role playing the Diwali - Rama and Sita story,

making powder paint and chalk rangoli's

Making Mendhi - (Henna) hand patterns,

and making our own 'diva' candle holders.

If you want to know more about Diwali you can watch the clip below and find out all about it!

Back to School With a BANG!!!

WOW Willow Class! You have really come back to school ready to 'rocket' this term!
Well done to all those children that remembered their new table groups this morning!
A huge well done to the very grown up children that said their 'goodbyes' at the door to their grown ups and came in and sorted their belongings by themselves. You are real 'Superstar Sparklers' Willow Class!!!

You might have guessed already that our theme this week has been 'Bonfire night'. We have had loads of fun making posters for our pretend 'Bonfire Party', pastelling and splatter painting 'Bonfire' scenes and building some fabulous bonfires!

Keep up the good work Willow Class!

We're Gonna Build a House!!!

Lots of the Reception children chose to go on the field during their choice time this afternoon. Yesterday we had looked at all different houses from around the world and we saw some that were made purely from 'canvas' material. When a big grey cloud lurked near we decided it would be good to make our own canvas hut! Ella B suggested we pegged up a canvas roof to stop the rain getting to us. Then we put a canvas on the ground so we wouldn't get prickled by sharp sticks! Finally we pegged up some walls to shelter us from the cold wind.

Eric and Popp G made us a little 'camp fire' so we could keep warm!

We had lots of fun hiding out in our den this afternoon!
Have fun singing the song we've been learning at school by pressing on the link! Hope your groovy moves are as good as Mrs Quinn-Locks! (You could always post us a picture on here to show us :-) )

Watch out for the Wellie Wednesday Wolf!!!

The children from Willow class had great fun today out in the Forest area.

They dressed up in costumes and pretended to be characters from the story 'Little Red Riding Hood'.

The children were very good at being Little Red Riding Hood and finding good hiding places and our Wolves searched high and low until they found them!

Thankfully nobody got gobbled up...although we're still looking for Granny!

Any ideas???

Red Riding Hood Cakes!

We enjoyed baking so much last week we decided to look at a different recipe and bake again this week.

We have been looking at the story of Red Riding Hood and thought it would be a good idea to bake a cake to give to someone we liked...although maybe they were a bit too tasty to give away!

mmm...Hedgehog rolls anyone?

You may have smelt a delicious bread baking smell from Willow Class yesterday as we were baking some Hedgehog bread rolls.
We have been reading the story of The Little Red Hen and we all wanted to help her bake bread, so we decided to do our own!

We thought it would be fun to make our bread roll into a little Autumn animal so we made Hedgehogs!!!
I hope you got to taste some yesterday...or maybe they were just to tasty to share!

Wonderful Willow Workers!!!

All of the children have worked so hard this week.
We have been looking at touch counting and matching numbers up to 20. We have made posters and labels for our fruit and veg stall - making a special effort to write our letters neatly and hear the first sounds of words.
So far we have learnt the leters and sounds for - s a t p i n m d at school, so you could have a practise at 'eye spy' with those letters at home!

Our best 'Mark Makers' this week are Harrison and Ellie P.

Our Stars of the week are Lucas and Ella B.

Well done Willow!

We're having a Wicked time in Willow!!!

We have had an action packed week this week learning all about 'Harvest and Sharing'.
Here's a little taster of what we've been up to in our free choice time...

Making really squidgy muddy puddles to splash in!  Catching minibeasts in Insect City.

 Bhangra Dancing (Indian Harvest dance)
Making playdough and salt dough fruit.
Zooming cars around the table road!
Taking the babies out for a picnic.
and of course Willow classes current favourite past time....Practising our racing driver skills!

Mrs Quinn-Lock had a go but needs to practise more!

Hello New Willow Class 2012 - 2013!

All of the new reception children have settled in so well to Willow class we have been very proud of them.
We have been talking about 'Family' this week and the children have done an excellent job of making 'Lolly stick' puppets to speak about different people in their family!

The children have loved their free choice time! We must have some budding racing car drivers as the bikes, trikes and cars are a very popular choice!

Tuesday 17 July 2012

Our class adventure to RAF Museum Cosford!

We had a fantastic day today at Cosford!

The children enjoyed seeing all the different types of aircraft and learning a lttle about them.
We had a great workshop called 'Let's Fly' where we had to check in our luggage, go through a strict passport control, a security gate and then board 'Cosford Airlines' for a trip to a hot sunny destination!

We have some budding Pilots and Flight Attendants in Willow Class!

After a lovely lunch we visited the 'Fun and Flight' area where we got to have a go with all the different activities which helped us to see the power of wind and pressure.

As always the children were impeccably behaved!

Thank you so much to Alison (John Jarvis' Mum), Sarah (Shea's Mum), Mr Dunn (Harry's Grandpi), Mrs Herbert (Ella's Nan) and Mr Davis for their support today.
