A Jubilee Party fit for a Queen!

This week we have been learning about what the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is and decorating bunting and crowns for our party!
This afternoon Willow, Rowan and Nursery all got together for their Jubilee party. We had loads of fun eating traditional English food like; cucumber sandwiches, jam tarts and lemonade! Then we played some 'pass the parcel' and had a 'bop'! What a fab way to celebrate the Queens 60 years on the throne!

Our Olympic Torch Visit!

This week in Willow class we have been learning about the Olympics. We looked at What the Olympic games are today and what they were like hundreds of years ago when they began in Greece.
Today we all went to see the Olympic torch on its journery through Shrewsbury!

The children were fantastic and we had a very memorable time waving our flags and cheering on the parade of vehicles!

Thank you so much to all the 'grown ups' who gave up their time to help;-
Mrs Rogers (Jorja's Nan), Brian (Harry's Grandad), Mrs Hamon (Isabella's Mum), Alison (John's Mum) and Mr Davies (Charlotte Davis Brown's Dad).

Minibeast Mayhem!

We've been having a fantastic time over the last 2 weeks hunting for minibeasts and thinking about their 'habitats'.  We have found out that different minibeasts like to have different homes. Ladybirds and butterflies like long grass and flowers, worms like the soil and we have found plenty of woodlice and earwigs under logs.
We decided to make a hotel especially for the minibeasts. We filled tubes with different things that minieasts like to live in - grass, feathers, sticks, soil, leaves, flowers and wool.  We think all different types of minibeasts will be coming to visit our hotel!

Mr and Mrs Morse have 'Mayday' Chicks!!!

We came back to school yesterday after the May bank holiday to find a nest full of hungry chicks in our nestbox!

Mr and Mrs Morse have been very dedicated parents and never get a minutes peace with at least 10 hungry chicks to feed! Well done Mr and Mrs Morse, you are doing a great job!

A Symmetrical Supper for Wessak!

This week we have looked at the Buddhist festival of Wesak which is celebrated on May 5th this year.
During Wessak Buddhists are not allowed to eat meat.
They decorate their homes with 'Mendalla's' which ar beautiful symmetrical patterns!

Wessak is all about being kind and sharing with others so we decided to make a 'Symmetrical vegetarian Pizza' to share and celebrate Wesak.

Inspecting Mr Morse!

Mrs Morse is a very dedicated expectant mother! Look at her carefully turning each egg over so she can keep them warm. We think she's so sweet when she puts her wing over her head and falls to sleep!

Mr Morse must be very busy as he only visits 2 - 3 times a week with a worm for Mrs Morse. Poor Mrs Morse has to keep leaving the nest to find her own food! We hope Mr Morse will visit more often when the eggs hatch and there's lots of hungry mouths to feed!
